To the editor:
As a subscriber to The Jessamine Journal, I was disturbed to see
your July 21 insert, "Faces of the Fair." On page 3, there was a
picture of a rabbit with the sentence, "A baby rabbit hopped around
inside an area where visitors played a game to try to win them as
prizes."
According to the Jessamine County Humane Society, after the fair,
many rabbits appear there for adoption, or they are released outdoors.
Rabbits are not pets to obtain on an impulse. They are intelligent,
inquisitive and social by nature. As the owner of a rescued bunny, I
cringe when I see rabbits huddled in a small, filthy cage in poor
weather without proper food or water.
Let's end the practice of giving away live pets at our county fair and save the lives of many innocent bunnies.
